I took a crack at it...
I attempted to use a crayola marker to make a 501st clone. It didn't turn out to good, that's why I used crayola.
If you want to customize but want it to be temporary, on action figures or LEGO, crayola's the way to go.

Or you can do what I do and use nail polish solvent if something goes wrong... you get good at it, eventually.

Only if you can't master the Q-tip... or are dumb enough to paint over decal lines.
Also it depends on consistence, quantity and the freshness of the paint.
