2013 Theme Discussion
Recently LEGO regesterd two trademarks, Speedorz and Legend of Chima. This topic is the main place for speculation on 2013 themes until we have locked down proof of anything, at that point each theme will be given it's own topic. I would like to thank Brickset for leading me to these.
Speedorz
This is most likely just another Racing Subtheme, Brickset is guessing futuristic, manly because of the 'z'. I believe this is why all healthy foods should start with a 'q'.
Legends of Chima
Ninja-Go (or Ninjago) is reaching the end of it's life cycle and I doubt it can last much longer, and this leaves the historic theme wide open. Brickset points to the Chima Indians from Trinidadian folklore, although this is a little obscure, it could make sense. The Chima indians seem close to Atlantans from what I have found from simple google searches, they lived in the space where the lake of La Brea, Trinidad . The folklore tells of the daughter of the tribes leader being kidnaped by the prince (of the same bloodline?) and this angered the gods, so they sunk the city. I am not clear on this story as I am going by a site being translated by Google, so if anyone would like to clear this up go ahead.

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
Even if I was into LEGO, I know that I would say that those sound BORING.
Futuristic racers, yeah, like we haven't had a theme that failed with that description before.
And Indian line? I have no issue with Indians as a race and culture, in fact I like the subject, but a toyline about it? This isn't the 60's Cowboy show era anymore... I know no one with an interest in Western themed toys. Hardly anyone in LEGO either.

Damn it, this is sad, nowadays everyone is a critic unless if they are admins, in which case they have to be objective... starting to think JCC just left the admin duty for octan so that he could join us in booing lego... Oh that reminds me...

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
No no, none of us have to support LEGO.
Octan is just being objective to deliver the news.
I still am the Admin, but considering I don't collect LEGO anymore it's hard to keep up on the news.
But I randomly got a LEGO Club Magazine in the mail after over a year without getting them... Oh god, I'm glad I got out. They just got worse and worse. The Collectible Minifigures and just Mini-Figs from Themes rehashed, I hate how realistic they're making them too.
I loved LEGO because of the simplicity and cuteness of it. And the new designs look more like Action Figures, which isn't what I want from LEGO.

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
Awkward moment when you are really you are kinda excited for these themes. But yeah, I feel the same way with the new sets, although this is going to sound weird, the friends sets are most like the old days, I recommend picking one up just to try it out. I think other people share your opinion, I found this blog-post that you both may like:

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
Not to get off topic, but, I am sure you could part the set out pretty cheap with just a few orders from Bricklink, they even have a tool to do so. I can't imagine it would cost more than the original without the minifigs.Bossky wrote:Still wish I could get that set... :\JCC1004 wrote:10198 Tantive IV is still one of my most all time favourite buys.Henri da Flipper wrote:yeah, I still appreciate some of the ships in the star wars line but the prices really tick me off...

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
And there is only one unique figure in the set.
Sets without figures are usually dirt cheap.
Kinda sad how much value they place on the figures.

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
These are all bland and uninteresting. But it seems they're appealing to small children and cartoon network viewers... so just small children...

Well, pictures have been leaking of a set from Legends of Chima. Technically we can't distribute them, but I have found a drop box hosting them, I would suggest saving them when you can. *nudge* *nudge*

Am I the only one besides Octan that sees the major flaw with this set, THE MAJOR one?
It's being released this December and/or January...
Fail...
Hooray! Another unimaginative, uncreative, and certainly unthought of spin-off to about a billion of their previous themes!Octan wrote:Well, pictures have been leaking of a set from Legends of Chima. I've always wanted a Bane figure to top off my Batman collection...
Well except Alfred, which is one of my favourites, but the 50+ he demands is nauseating.

Oh yeah, sorry about that, I just really stumbled upon here when octan said he had posted about Lego SH, I've actually been busy as hell with school and stuff, tomorrow and sunday I have an Anime Convention to go to where I will not only be cosplaying as Green Oak but I will also be organising the Pokémon BW Tourney.

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
The back story for Legends of Chima has been released by a Hungarian store:
The kingdom of Chima is a magical land, in which very advanced species dominate. These creatures speak and act like people. They use vehicles and machines and live in amazing castles and fortresses. They have claws, teeth, tails, and some are equipped with wings. Now they are at war with each other...
"Chima was once a pure, natural paradise, but heavily armed barbarians species have changed it and now best friends have become sworn enemies of each other. Ruthless weapons destroyed the once sacred temples. Blood-thirsty vehicles battle each other in fatal duels in the forest.
"The creatures are fiercely fighting over a powerful natural resource called Chi. which is the source of life but also unimaginable destruction.
"Only a few brave heroes in Chima understand the true nature of Chi, and (for some reason) this leads to total destruction of Chima. Their stories are (apparently) the 'The Legends of Chima'. (via Brickset)

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
The LEGO Star Wars sets actually look decent. Loving the phase 2's but they're in bigger sets, and don't really see a reason in getting them. I would actually get the Battle pack if the Phase I helmets were just not repaints of the CW ones...
Anyone else see the Transformers rip off? Really creative LEGO, considering Hasbro has decently done the same thing? And, if I may have... done a better job at it?

This may be the first look we have of the Galaxy Squad sets coming in 2013 from the new club magazine.

Re: 2013 Theme Discussion
Well, I am starting to see that in the new sets, the new Alien sets sort of look like Mars Mission. I do, however, like where Chima is going, Fabuland at war.The Breakdown wrote:Anyone else see the lack of originality trail that LEGO has taken?

Although I think many of us agree, please try to be a little more mature then just bashing it. Maybe some constructive feedback?PokeShotz wrote:THIS IS CRAP

You are getting there, not to be so nit-picky. I do agree, the first wave of this theme looks to be a complete and utter failure, although I do think we will see a second wave. I hope the second wave is better as this really could have some promise.PokeShotz wrote:I can't because this is so stupid lookingOctan wrote:Although I think many of us agree, please try to be a little more mature then just bashing it.
