Dark Age Discussion Empty Dark Age Discussion

Post by JackDawson1010 6/17/2011, 12:42 am

I know quite a few members that are in the 6th and 7th grade are starting their "Dark Ages". Me being one of them. Does anybody on the site have tips so that our members at this age so we can stay Lego fans and not leave this site?

Lennonfan, when you enter these years it is hard not to get pulled away from LEGO®... So many other things start to fill up your life and before you know it you give up the 'brick'. The truth is you have to make a decision... Will you take time out of your life, and time with friends or will you push this all behind you, there is nothing more or less about this...

If you chose to stay will LEGO you are going to have to give up some time with other things you enjoy and use that time to focus on school and any extra time focus on LEGO®...

(Also for people that don't use the US school system for ages 11-13 and 13-5 students, I believe this to be years 9 and 10)

... well I started brickfilming everyday when I entered 7th grade, don't bother yourself with it being perfect, just grab a cam and film a bit, test out some new movement like for super dashes you can use angeled bricks. just do what feels natural when going back into brickfilming.

My problem is I never did anything close to professional brickfilming, thus now I have trouble making videos...

What I did was I would just pick up some Legos everyday. Also I tried to find friends who enjoy Legos so I could build with them. Smile

Finding friends that build is a big help, you will be surprised on how many of your friends build Lego. Classic Smile

I'm starting to slowly return. As I am getting all the action figures needed, and only needing a couple more, I bought the Knight Bus and it was fun. If you want to get back into LEGO, just don't build and put it in a display, maybe play with it a little bit, and play and focus with your favourite theme (themes), mine being Star Wars. When the Star wars Summer sets start hitting, topics like this will be less-needed. I actually want to make a BL order! Smile

One thing I would do is build a MOC of a building you see everyday going a little bit at a time, by setting goals for yourself.

I still keep my brickfilming idea.

If not, just play with them, make little dioramas and have them brick-people shoot at eachother or whatever.

If you want an SW summer set I have them here, I think they are there aswell.

I have been going through my dark age and it's not pretty. I think I have moved on to liking architecture more than battleships and dioramas. I think I will start with something big though It's hard to think of something to build. I really like St.Marks Campanile though I don't know how to approach it any advice?

when I try to build big things(like my echo base door) I do the following:

I use plates as walls, I do't need to balance 'em, they actually fit onto the baseplates between the studs.

I don't know if I just stated the obvious, but that might work for ya.

Being into other things is a bit of the reason I'm getting out of Lego. I still goof around in LDD (been making a big Penny Lane), but I've been getting into more music-ish stuff and movies (a really good mix of both: The Blues Brothers)

That makes two of us. But the only thing I've done LEGO is make a blue "Transformer" that if it did, would transform into a Blue Chevy Nomad. I might make a separate Nomad. That might help me get back into it.

Hello everyone, sorry for the extended absence, and great to see the forum growing. I too have sort of felt like I've hit a dark age as I'm just now hitting eight grade. I've spent a lot of time keeping up with a Minecraft and Lego community that Cralegoboy and I are a part of, and all the Minecraft's just hindered my Lego-ing a bit. My computer was in the shop for the greater month of June, and my interest sort of fizzled when I couldn't reach anyone to get inspiration and stuff.

My LEGO figures are a lot larger than your Hasbro, and the only reason I only bought the astomech was becasue it was the only thing there I really didn't have yet... Grin
I have already put many sets away for Hasbro.

And Henri, I started getting into LEGO truly at ten, and after 4 years, I'm burned out nearly. And I may get the Hasbro Falcon, too. I already have all the figures included with the LEGO one, it's not to size even, and I'm not really into LEGO. But Getting the Hasbro one would be better for me, for I have all the figures that were ever in the Falcon, I am into Hasbro, and it is to size!

I'm not selling anything, nor am I buying. LEGO just lacks everything Hasbro has to offer, many, many characters, more than 7 points of swivel articulation, detail, new molding. They can re-print a clone and put it in a huge set and it's worth a fortune. Snob

We should change the title of this topic to "Dark Age Discussion".

I'd only ever consider selling things that aren't Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, Castle, CMF, Harry Potter, and some others. I may consider others but I'm so out of touch I have no idea how to sell it or what is a good price.

Figures are quite different. There are many heads that have been sold, I even found one that looks like me (Keyan Farlander's), and I hope to find an extra head (people that customize sell there extra parts, so I can make a sig-fig in Hasbro), I just need another Keyan head and a nice Imperial Torso.
And I kept all of my LEGO figures together, never customized, never took apart sets.
Transfromers is 5 out of ten compared to Star Wars, my friend. Can you tell this guy is a toy?

Sorry for bumping this, but I feel I'm starting to get too far gone. I have abandoned non-SW LEGO entirely, and am going to pout them in my closet and under my bed as storage. SW LEGO will remain out, but I won't mess with them/buy them that much. Sure, I'm going to get the new BP's and maybe Droid Escape, but that's it until I get a little more $. I just feel that LEGO's prices, over-advertising, and overall blandness has gotten me out of it. I just feel SW action figures have so much more to offer. More characters, better pricing, more collectible, less space, and I've had them since preschool. I don't know how anyone could really enjoy LEGO anymore, the pricing is sad, and you can't get that much for your money anymore, but Hasbro SW seems to be top notch, nice pricing, and they actually take their time with it instead of LEGO. Just look at Hasbro's job and attention to detail with the Daultay Dofine figure.

Dark Age Discussion Empty Re: Dark Age Discussion

The Pricing is bad, I have to admit.. I went into a little dark age and now I am climbing out of it..

At this point I don't really want to return, I just think LEGO isn't my thing anymore. I'm just going to put them away, not sell; just in case I do return.

I felt the same way about LEGO about a year ago, went into a small dark age then came back stronger then ever... I think finding ways to look at LEGO in a different way, other then a toy, helped me...

I've thought of them as everything, and yet nothing.

Here's a suggestion Empy, it's the very reason why I'm currently working on a huge microscale project I may eventually show you guys.

I constantly write scripts, for films I think I could do, stories that could be told or retold, and as I write, I find myself opening LDD and building more and more "sets" where the scenes are gonna take place, it's a good advice, instead of buying more lego, start building digitally, and once you're satisfied, tear apart old sets you don't "need" anymore and build the settings for your movies
